11 Unusual Things I Love about Davao

1. Davao Airport. Douglas Adams might say "It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase 'As pretty as an Airport' appear" but I am curiously a fan of Francis Bangoy International Airport . The place is clean and well maintained and they even charge lower boarding pass rates compared to Manila.

2. Honesty in Taxi Drivers. Davao Taxi drivers give you the exact change and you can opt to call their operator in case you have forgotten an item in one of their franchise.

3. No Smoking. I even heard news about Scout masters being jailed for violating the smoking ban. Seriously.

4. Two Dialects. You can speak in Visayan or Tagalog or both and people will understand you.

5. Sunday Television Program. Davao  Vice Mayor Duterte in his "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" program averages 10 - 20 beeps or censored words. His direct and raw comments on city issues make Eminem sound like Miss Manners.

6. H20. Our water from our faucet is clean and safe to drink.

7. Merco. Before Jollibee, Merco was the place to be for families to gather during
weekends. The food there is good but very affordable.

8. Shrine Hills. True and hardcore penitents can emulate the stations of the cross whilst
climbing up the hill. They would be duly rewarded with a quaintly landscaped shrine and a wonderful view of Davao landscape at the top.

9. Cost of Living. You can survive with 500 pesos for a week.

10. LGU. If the HK tourist bus hijack had happened in Davao City, things might have turned out differently.

11. 911. Aside from US and Canada, Davao is the only place where the emergency response system is adopted.
